ようこそ、お友達と

On Saturday, August 22, 2009 Second Pride brings you the Teahouse of the August Moon, the first fundraiser of the season leading up to the Festival next year!

The Teahouse event runs from Noon to 10PM SLT, with dance, party, and theatre taking place at five different venues:

You will not want to miss the 2 floor shows, at Noon and at 5PM where a cast of 25 transform a Japanese village into a spectacular musical production. Special viewing decks allow spectators to take in the complete panorama.

The Temple of the Golden Pavilion extends over a wonderful lake and suggests a position between heaven and earth. The inside of the temple houses many relics, and the outside gardens become inspired dance floors at 1PM and 6PM.

The evolution of natural scenery with the addition of carefully chosen local materials defines the Teahouse and its beautiful gardens. All are welcome at the Teahouse, the friendliest of places. Parties at 2PM, 7PM, and 9PM.

At 3PM we have a special Kabuki play entitled Musume Dojoji performed by the Ichimura-za Kabuki group . The Kabuki Theatre is located on a high plateau, overlooking the Japanese village. Get into authentic tradition with SL Kabuki!

The evanescent world of fleeting beauty is mixed with the mysteries of water at our Floating World venue. Dance to pulsating beats across the lily pond at 3PM and 8PM.

The Teahouse of the August Moon is crafted for your enjoyment, but also created to support Amnesty International and its Project Outfront. Project Outfront works to protect members of the LGBT community while striving to achieve decriminalization and marriage equality world-wide. Your donations during the event support this worthy cause.

Share your Pride on August 22nd, and mark your calendars for a thrilling introduction to an event-laden season!

Keep your ears open for the Teahouse landmark, available a few days before the party!

The Kabuki play, Musumi Dojiji, takes place at a temple in Japan. This particular temple has no bell because long ago, one of the monks fell in love with a young dancing girl. When he turned from her to dedicate to his vows, she became a demon and pursued him. The abbot of the temple hid him inside the bell, and the demon in turn melted the bell and him within it.

Fast forward to the dedication of the new bell, and a young dancing girl appears to dance in dedication of the new bell....ohoh....you smell trouble?

hehe...it's an adaptation of the Japanese Kabuki play written by..... yours truly. Very Happy

BTW? The play is available to watch on youtube, and I must say that Bando Tamasaburo remains one of the people I admire as a performer and a living treasure.
