Recommendation for Enhanced Financial Reporting Empty Recommendation for Enhanced Financial Reporting

I'd like to congratulate Eaglewoman on her recent election to the Treasurer position for Second Pride 2010. As a general Second Pride member, I have every confidence that she will perform her new duties magnificently. It is in that spirit that I make the following request regarding financial reporting. The reports I have seen thus far are superb, but I strongly believe we could benefit more from the data. First, Second Pride's contributing base should be as wide and diverse as possible, and I believe the Committee should be tracking it. Second, I believe every time a Second Life user who is not already a Second Pride member makes an in-world donation it's an opportunity to signup a new member.

Therefore, I would like to request the Treasurer enhance reporting, at least on a monthly basis, to include an itemized summary broken down by Second Life user showing total donations and whether or not the user is a member of Second Pride. Eric Quimby created a similar report, but it didn't include the membership status. Also, I believe it would be helpful to indicate whether a donor is a current or former Committee member.

As indicated above, I believe this breakdown would provide the Committee and the general membership with an important measure of it's contributing base. Also, the indication of Second Pride membership could be useful to the Committee in its efforts to increase membership, which I believe is crucial to the overall success of Second Pride.

Thank you for your consideration.

It is important to develop an appropriate privacy policy as outlined previously in case a donor wishes to be anonymous. Personally, I'd say I'm not altogether thrilled with the idea of my every nickel being shouted from the mountaintops.

That's a good point. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any provisions for anonymous donations. However, from the standpoint of the democratic process and the transparency we require from a non-profit organization, Second Pride should refuse anonymous donations by default. Having said that, with the proper guidelines and provisions, I believe anonymous donations should be allowed, but on a limited basis.

Provisions could be put in place such that the Treasurer's administrative burdens are kept proportionate. We could exclude low-value donations from the default obligation to refuse anonymous donations. The term 'low-value donation' would have to be defined. A maximum ceiling should be set on both the amount of anonymous donations Second Pride may receive from a single source and on the total amount of anonymous donations Second Pride may receive in a given year.
