No place to vote Empty No place to vote

It's October 12, 2009 at 4:20 am (SL). I am a member of the Voter Registration user group. I've just logged on to the Second Pride site, but can find no place to vote for Treasurer. My understanding is that voting was set to begin 4 hours ago and end at midnight tonight. Did someone forget something?

good morning Gordon

I have just logged in and noticed that too....I have sent an email re: this issue. Sorry about this, it has been a very long week for all of us. Not to worry, it'll be up shortly and sorry for the inconvenience.

It's not an inconvenience to me, it's more like an annoyance. It's a reflection on the current Committee and it's presiding chair. This is a serious issue, and, if I were a candidate, I would insist on a full accounting of how this could have happened.

The voting room is now open. Please all, cast your votes and TY for your patience.

Actually, there were some problems with perms apparently and perhaps a dab of miscommunication. I am satisfied with the explanation of the events that occurred that nothing "sinister" was afoot.

Well, I'm glad you're satisfied, but I'm not. It's hard to accept the "technical difficulties" excuse when there was no sort of posted message on the forums to that effect until now. Remember, transparency? This doesn't seem all that transparent. By the way, I never said there was anything "sinister" afoot.

Gordon, as I stated in the "General topics" post, I was unable to access either the website or the forums. It is rather difficult to post on the forum that you can not access the forum when you do not have access to the forum.

Peace,
Keo

Keo...which is it....problem with permissions (as indicated by Eaglewoman), miscommunication, or a problem accessing the website? Did this same problem prevent you or someone else from accessing SL so that an in-world notice could have been sent last night or earlier this morning to the Second Pride group? Maybe it's the same problem that prevented an advance notice of the public meeting that was held yesterday.

As I said earlier in a response to Eaglewoman, I never said there was anything "sinister" going on, and I really don't appreciate the implication that I did. Technical issues happen. I should know, I'm in the IT industry. My problem as it regards to this issue (and a couple of others) is rooted in Second Pride's consistent inconsistency, cabal environment, and poor communication.

Gordon--I did not mention anything about "sinister" and did not get that impression from your post at all. I can not speak for EagleWoman and how she may have understood or perceived your post, but the implication of sinister activity did not come from me. Indeed, it is an unfortunate snafu on our end; and while we all strive for perfection in consistency and communication, sometimes we miss the mark. The best we can offer is an already established and ongoing commitment to learn from the mistakes and do better.

In response to the question you lead off with in your post, honestly it was all of the above. After our meeting yesterday, I visited the SP10 Treasurer Chair Special Elections room to set up the Vote Room. I learned that I did not have the proper admin status to set up the poll in that room. I emailed Anden and Isaiah Tolsen to let him know that I was not able to create the poll due to the permissions issue. At 10PM EST (7PM SLT/PDT), I attempted to check in to the site to see if the Vote Room had been created. It is at this point that I learned I was unable to access either the website or the forums. After an hour of attempting cache clears, browser resets and ISP contacts to no avail it was the end of a 14 hour work day for me (a combination of SL, SP and RL work) and I shut down my system. Having emailed the Secretary and the Webmaster (5 hours before the vote was to open) I felt confident that the Vote Room would be created. At that point an in world notice did not even enter my mind.

It was not until this morning (via an email that arrived at 11:26PM EDT, 8:26PM PDT/SLT) that I learned Isaiah had changed the admin permissions for the SP10 Treasurer Chair Special Elections to allow me to create the poll. And it was also not until this morning that I learned from Anden that he and Isaiah were experiencing some of the same access issues I was facing last night. So it would seem that the Tolsens felt confident that I would be able to create the Vote Room Poll; therefore, with the west coast and east coast not knowing each others issues, the resulting unfortunate circumstance was that neither the Tolsens or myself were aware that the Vote Room was not in place and open until checking in this morning.

The first order of business this morning, then, was to get the poll vote created and open. As soon as it was, I posted to the General topics forum that it was now open and subsequently logged in to SL to send in world group notices.

Regarding "Second Pride's consistent inconsistency, cabal environment, and poor communication," as we move forward with the Ad Hoc Charter Committee and the business of this Committee's programs, initiatives and Festival I'm sure you will see improvement in rectifying all of these issues as well as others. In the meantime, we forge ahead with what we know, what are able to learn from incomplete and inconsistent records of past Second Pride Committees and what we are able to learn from our own successes and mistakes.

Peace,
Keo

Keo....I did not attribute the "sinister" comment to you. I must not have been clear in that regard. For that, I apologize.

I appreciate the expanded explanation you provided. As I said before, technical glitches happen. However, it is astonishing that the Board Administrator had not already granted your user account the necessary rights and permissions to do your job. I don't understand why your account doesn't have global permissions in the forums. Perhaps we will never fully know what happened here, but, it brings to mind the strange situation that occurred during the last election when the Second Pride avatar account apparently voted. Was there ever an explanation for that? It seems like the Vote Room and Poll were opened on time for the first go-round. If it helps, I had no problems accessing the website and forums last night during the period you mentioned, nor have I experienced any issues today. Maybe I'm just lucky.

As far as the notice is concerned, the first (and only) in-world notice I received from the Second Pride Festival group today came at 11:07 AM CST (9:07 AM SLT/PDT). The Vote Room situation was finally resolved at about 9:30 AM CST (7:30 AM SLT/PDT)? You said you sent the in-world notice as soon as the poll vote was created and opened, but it looks to me like it took over an hour and a half for the in-world notice to go out.

Because of this unfortunate start, I would suggest someone periodically send additional in-world notices to people, reminding them that the Vote Room is open.

It is with regret that I feel I must stand by my assertion regarding Second Pride's consistent inconsistency, cabal environment, and poor communication. As far as the Ad Hoc Charter Committee is concerned, at this point, I hope you're right and we do see improvement in all of these issues. We'll see.
